Knicks face harsh truth after Game 1 collapse: ‘We played not to lose’

Knicks Collapse Late in Game 1 as Brunson, Defense Falter in Costly Loss

Jalen Brunson was nearly unstoppable for most of Game 1, scoring 37 points on 15-of-22 shooting. His layup with under a minute left gave the Knicks a nine-point lead over the Pacers. But in the final stretch, everything unraveled.

New York made critical defensive errors, missed key rebounds and free throws, and let the game slip away. Surprisingly, Brunson—usually clutch—was part of the downfall, committing three turnovers in the last 5:30. Though he hit late free throws and scored in overtime, he couldn't finish the game strong.

Now, the Knicks are under pressure. Indiana enters Game 2 riding a wave of confidence. The Knicks have responded well to adversity this postseason, but this is their toughest test yet.

Despite the loss, the team stayed composed.

“The series just started,” said OG Anunoby. “We’ll learn from it.”

Josh Hart admitted, “We played not to lose. That can’t happen again.”

Game 2 at the Garden is now a must-win.
